Traditional Rice
The rice cultivation has a long and parallel relationship with the country’s history and culture and Sri Lankan has practised an agriculture-based lifestyle for the past 3 millennia. According to the evidence collected through written history and archaeology, rice cultivation of the island goes back to the period of 900-600 BC.
Dik Wee (දික් වී)
Dik Wee ist eine mittelkörnige rote Reissorte, die traditionell in Sri Lanka angebaut wird. Die Pflanze erreicht eine maximale Höhe von 150 cm. Diese Ernte kann innerhalb von 4 bis 4½ Monaten nach der Aussaat geerntet werden. Im Reifestadium nimmt der Pflanzenstamm eine leicht bläuliche Farbe an. Die Anzahl der Triebe pro Pflanze beträgt 10 bis 12, was im Vergleich zu anderen traditionellen Reissorten sehr hoch ist. Es ist lagerbeständig, hat einen guten Ertrag von 80 bis 85 Bushel pro Acre und verfügt über einen guten kommerziellen Wert. Es handelt sich um eine beliebte Sorte, die in der Feuchtzone angebaut wird. Untersuchungen weisen auf das Vorhandensein medizinischer Eigenschaften hin, die zur Behandlung von Entzündungen , Diabetes, Krebs , neurologischen Erkrankungen, Cholesterin und oxidativem Stress nützlich sind. Der Verzehr zusammen mit der Kleie ist wichtig, um solch wertvolle ernährungsphysiologische und medizinische Eigenschaften zu erhalten.
