Bezirk Hambantota
Der Distrikt Hambantota liegt an der Südostküste Sri Lankas . Es hat eine Fläche von 2.593 km² und Hambantota verfügt über ein tropisches feucht-trockenes Klima und es gibt keine echte Trockenzeit, aber von Januar bis März und erneut von Juni bis August gibt es deutlich weniger Regen. Der stärkste Regen fällt im Oktober und November .
Die Bezirkshauptstadt ist die Stadt Hambantota . Dort befindet sich der Verwaltungssitz sowie das Zentrum der Salzgewinnung. Weitere bekannte Städte sind Tangalle , Ambalantota , Tissamaharama und Beliatta.
Etwa 240 km von Colombo entfernt befindet sich Hambantota mitten in der Umwandlung in ein strategisches Hafen- und Handelszentrum und durchläuft einen umfangreichen Infrastrukturausbau. Hambantota wird von weitläufigen Sandstränden umgeben und ist ein idealer Ausgangspunkt, um nahegelegene Sehenswürdigkeiten zu besichtigen.
Hambantota liegt am nächsten zur Hauptschifffahrtsroute Malakkastraße/Suezkanal, die Ost und West verbindet. Die chinesische Sonne ist in Hambantota aufgegangen: Ein von China finanzierter, riesiger neuer Seehafen in Hambantota nimmt Gestalt an und soll im November 2010 eröffnet werden.
In Hambantota wird derzeit ein neuer Flughafen gebaut, der mit den neuesten Airbus A380-Flugzeugen kompatibel sein soll. In Hambantota gibt es ein internationales Cricketstadion .
Sri Lankas erster botanischer Garten in der Trockenzone, der bald der größte der Insel sein wird, wird derzeit auf einem 300 Hektar großen Gelände in Mirijjawila , Hambantota, angelegt. Der Garten zielt darauf ab, die riesige Grünfläche und die Artenvielfalt in der Gegend um Hambantota zu erhalten. Gestern war Hambantota ein Dorf im Dschungel; Im kommenden Jahr wird Hambantota über Nacht zu einem Wunder moderner Entwicklung werden.
Zusätzlich zum Bezirk Hambantota gibt es so viele Touristenattraktionen wie den Tissa-See , den Tissamaharama Raja Maha Vihara, den Kirinda Vihara Maha Devi-Tempel, Yatala Dalada Wehera, das Wirawila Tissa Sanctuary , den Kirinda Beach , das Hummanaya Blow Hole , den Goyambokka Beach , den Ussangoda-Nationalpark und Mulgirigala Raja Maha Viharaya , Kudawella Beach, Yala-Nationalpark , Hafen von Hambanthota , Martello-Turm.
