Vavuniya (වවුනියාව) ist eine Stadt in der Nordprovinz Sri Lankas . Es ist auch die Hauptsiedlung im Bezirk Vavuniya . Vavuniya liegt in der Mitte der Vanni-Region und ist das Tor zur nördlichen Provinz, von wo aus die Menschen alle nördlichen Städte schnell erreichen können. Der Bahnhof Vavuniya liegt an der Nordlinie und verbindet Kankesanthurai mit Colombo . Während des Bürgerkriegs war Vavuniya der Endpunkt der Nordlinie. Hier befindet sich auch der Flughafen Vavuniya, der sowohl ein Luftwaffenstützpunkt als auch ein Inlandsflughafen ist.

Eines der interessantesten Dinge, die man in Vavuniya unternehmen kann, ist der Besuch des archäologischen Museums, das Geschichten über die Geschichte erzählt. Das Archäologische Museum ist ein Regionalmuseum in Vavuniya, Sri Lanka. Die Abteilung für Archäologie Sri Lankas hat dieses außergewöhnliche Museum gegründet und betreibt es. Dieses regionale Museum zeigt archäologische Objekte, die in Vavuniya und seiner näheren Umgebung entdeckt wurden.

About Vavuniya District

Vavuniya District is one of the 25 districts of Sri Lanka, the second level administrative division of the country. The district is administered by a District Secretariat headed by a District Secretary (previously known as a Government Agent) appointed by the central government of Sri Lanka. The capital of the district is the city of Vavuniya.

About Northern Province

The Northern ProvinceNorthern Province is located in the north of Sri Lanka just 35 km from India. It has a land area of 8,884 km’. The province is surrounded by the Gulf of Mannar and Palk Bay to the west, Palk Strait to the north west, the Bay of Bengal to the north and east and the Eastern, North Central and North Western provinces to the south. The Northern Province of Sri Lanka is comprised of five administrative districts: Jaffna, Kilinochchi, Mulaitivu, Vavuniya and Mannar while Jaffna being the provincial capital which is the administrative headquarters of the Jaffna districtlocated on a peninsula of the same name.
