Berge und Gipfel

Berge und Gipfel in Sri Lanka . In den zentralen und südlichen Teilen Sri Lankas gibt es mehrere Berge und Gipfel, die äußerst ökologisch und reich an Artenvielfalt sind. Diese Berge sind als Wälder erhalten und Ausgangspunkt vieler Flüsse. Der Berg Sri Pada ist Sri Lankas heiliger Gipfel, auf dem Pilger den Fußabdruck von Lord Buddha anbeten.

Das Hügelland ist außergewöhnlich schön, mit kristallklaren Wasserfällen und überall verstreuten Teeplantagen . Die Temperatur in dieser Region bleibt das ganze Jahr über kühl und es herrscht eine Atmosphäre des frühen Frühlingsmorgens. Alles ist grün und üppig und die Landschaft ist erhöht mit Schichten von Grashügeln und zerklüfteten Wasserfällen, während dichter Bergwald an den oberen Hängen haftet. Die Tage vergehen im Bergland und es gibt nicht viel zu tun, außer Tee (in Hülle und Fülle) zu trinken und die Ruhe und atemberaubenden Spaziergänge und Ausblicke zu genießen.

Es gibt mehrere kleine Städte, die auf jeden Fall einen Besuch wert sind, wie zum Beispiel Nuwara Eliya . Es gibt auch einige majestätische Naturwunder zu erkunden, nämlich Worlds End und Adams Peak .

Worlds End liegt in den Horton Plains , einem hügeligen Hochlandgelände mit Grasland, durchsetzt mit Wald und ungewöhnlicher Höhenvegetation. Die Ebenen erreichen eine Höhe von über 2000 Metern, wobei die Berge Kirigalpotta und Totapola an den Rändern des Plateaus aufragen. Das beeindruckendste Merkmal der seltsamen stillen Welt der Ebenen ist jedoch Worlds End, wo die Ebenen abrupt aufhören und Sie über einem schweben lassen gerader Abstieg von 880 Metern.

  • Sri Lanka’s highest peak, also known as Mount Pedro, rises 2524m (8281ft) above sea level, immediately behind the town. Unfortunately, the path to the summit, which is the site of Sri Lanka's main television transmitter, is closed to visitors for security reasons. For a view of the summit and a superb panorama of the surrounding hills and plantations.

  • Reaching upto 2388m (7835 feet) above mean sea level, Kirigalpoththa Mountain in Sri Lanka looms in the district of Nuwara Eliya casting its shadow over the main city. This mountain is the second tallest of the island paradise Sri Lanka, and the tallest of the mountains in the island.

  • Totapolakanda is the third highest mountain in Sri Lanka situated in Nuwara Eliya district 2,357 m above mean sea level. The mountain is located within the Horton Plains National Park. A trail to the top of the mountain, about two kilometres long, starts a few metres away from the Pattipola entrance to the Horton Plains National Park.

  • The most famous physical feature of Ceylon is Adam’s Peak, which is situated in the Ratnapura district. It is on the edge of the central massif but its surrounding group of mountains called the Wilderness of the Peak . It is about 7500 ft high and, though it is the second-highest peak in the land.

  • The Knuckles range, which lies in theKandyandMataleAdministrative Districts, was originally known as the Dumbara Kanduwetiya (misty mountain range). Its present name, given to it by British surveyors, is derived from the shape of its main massif, which resembles the knuckles on a fist.

  • A beautifully paved footpath, several elevated platforms, ruins of an old hospital and remains of a terraced pond are what is unearthed at this 180 BC Buddhist monastery at the foothill of 600m high Ritigala Rock. Dating back to around 350 B.C is one of the oldest historical places mentioned in the ancient chronicles.

  • Thirteen kilometers from Anuradhapura is Mihintale, the site of introduction of Buddhism to Sri Lanka in the year 247 BC. The King of Sri Lanka having embraced Buddhism established the world’s first fauna and flora sanctuary at Mihintale.

  • 1358Meters hight, Situated in Rakwana mountain range Gongala is a great place for an eco-experience of Sinharaja. From the west side, you can see the Sinharaja Rain Forest Mountains and Canopy. The Nothern and Eastern side will show you Rakwana and Balangoda as well as Udawalawe forest in the distance.

  • Situated in Badulla district rising above tea plantations Namukula is one of best mountains in Sri Lanka for an eco-adventure. From above you could see the flat plane of eastern forests that include Udawalawe and Yala.

  • The Hanthana Mountain Range lies in the central highlands of Sri Lanka, south-west of Kandy. Famous among local climbers hantana can be seen from Kandy dressed in mist. A great place to go when you are in Kandy.

  • Named as Bible Rock by Europeans this fascinating mountain is seen from Kadugannwa pass on the Kandy Colombo Road. Situated in Aranayaka ecologically important area in central hills.
