Athugala, auch Ethagala genannt, ist ein sehr prächtiger Felsen, der die Stadt Kurunegala in Sri Lanka überblickt. Athugala liegt nur etwa 1 km von der Stadt Kurunegala entfernt. Den Namen „Athugala“ erhält der Felsen aufgrund seiner Elefantenform. Dies ist „das“ Wahrzeichen von Kurunegala. Sie können auf zwei Wegen zur Spitze des Felsens gelangen. Entweder folgen Sie den Stufen im Fels oder fahren mit Ihrem Fahrzeug nach oben. Der Weg zur Spitze des Felsens ist etwas ermüdend und dauert etwa 15 bis 20 Minuten, aber Sie werden das vergessen, wenn Sie sich umschauen. Manchmal findet man mitten im Felsen ein paar Affengruppen. Es ist also immer besser, auf seine Sachen aufzupassen.

Wenn Sie die Spitze des Felsens erreichen, können Sie den Tempel (Athugala Viharaya) und die riesige schneeweiße Buddha-Statue sehen. Dieser Tempel beherbergt die riesige 88 Fuß hohe Buddha-Statue. Der große nackte Felsberg bietet einen perfekten Rahmen für die Buddha-Statue. Der Nachtblick auf die Buddha-Statue von der Stadt Kurunegala aus ist einfach atemberaubend. Am Himmel ist nur die schneeweiße Buddha-Statue zu sehen, während die gesamte Umgebung im Dunkeln liegt. Es ist, als würde die Buddha-Statue im Himmel schweben. Es ist einen Besuch wert und diese Ausblicke machen den Ort unvergesslich.

Um die perfekte Aussicht zu haben, müssen Sie abends mit dem Klettern auf den Felsen beginnen. Bleiben Sie oben auf dem Felsen, bis es etwas dunkel wird. Die Aussicht auf die Stadt Kurunagela von der Spitze des Felsens ist ein Panoramablick und ein Augenschmaus. Wenn Sie an der geschäftigen Stadt Kurunegala vorbeikommen, ist Athugala ein Muss. Wenn Sie sagen wollen, dass Sie Kurunegala besucht haben, müssen Sie auch Athugala besteigen.

  • Pidurutalagala or Mount Pedro in English, is an ultra prominent peak, and the tallest mountain in Sri Lanka, at 2,524 m (8,281 ft). Mount Pedro is located close to the city of Nuwara Eliya, and is easily visible from most areas of the Central Province. It is situated North-North-East from the town of Nuwara Eliya.
