Raksha-Masken aus Sri Lanka
Eine Raksha-Maske ist eine Maske, die die Menschen in Sri Lanka häufig bei Festivals und kulturellen Tänzen verwenden. Raksha bedeutet „Dämon“ und die Masken sind apotrop, was bedeutet, dass sie das Böse abwehren sollen. Sie sind in leuchtenden Farben, mit prallen Augen und hervorstehenden Zungen bemalt und zeigen verschiedene Arten von Dämonen.
Raksha-Masken sind der letzte Aspekt des Kolam-Rituals und eine Hommage an die Rakshasas, eine Rasse, die zuvor Sri Lanka regierte und 24 verschiedene Formen annehmen konnte. Es werden jedoch nur wenige dieser Formen ausgeführt, von denen einige sind:
